KFC and CSA Welcome Their New Mini Cricket Ambassadors

The first KFC Mini Cricket ambassadors; 2010 ICC ODI player of the year AB de Villiers, veteran South African fast bowler Makhaya Ntini and the 2009 Cricket South Africa (CSA) Women’s Cricketer of the Year, Trisha Chetty were officially inducted into the KFC Mini Cricket family at a launch held on Tuesday 30 November 2010 at the Wanderers Stadium.

Both Makhaya and Trisha came through the mini cricket programme as youngsters and all three professional cricketers have since gone on to receive numerous accolades for their successful cricketing careers.

According to KFC Marketing Director Lizanne Bartlett, “the ambassadors will wear the KFC Mini Cricket badge and give a face to the programme, their support will be invaluable in growing the programme and their personal stories of success will inspire the children to reach for their dreams. It is also an indication of KFC’s commitment to the mini cricket programme, ensuring opportunities for South Africa’s next generation of Proteas.”

In his recent retirement speech from international cricket, Ntini, who holds the title of South Africa's second-highest Test wicket-taker, indicated that he would like to give back to the cricketing development programmes that nurtured and supported his development into an admired and successful cricket player, the tribute he will leave as his legacy.

“The KFC Mini Cricket ambassadors are all positive representations of South African cricket. The KFC Mini Cricket programme forms an integral part of CSA’s Tomorrow campaign and is the first step in the pipeline to the Proteas. The programme embodies CSA’s credo of doing something today to shape tomorrow,” commented Kass Naidoo, CSA’s Brand & Corporate Relations Manager.

In conjunction with the ambassador programme announcement, KFC also launched a new exciting in-store mobile game where patrons can bowl against AB de Villiers.

KFC Mini Cricket has also recently introduced the KFC Mini Cricket Family Areas, which will be hosted at the upcoming Indian Test series where ticket holders gain access to the family area as well as the exciting action zone where they can enter a once-in-a-lifetime competition to win a party for their child hosted by AB de Villiers and Makhaya Ntini.

To date over two million children have passed through the mini cricket programme, providing them with an opportunity to follow in the footsteps of their cricketing heroes with more than 80% of the current national squad having started out playing mini cricket as well as the vast majority of the women’s squad and many coaches and administrators who have moved through mini cricket to coaching some of the regional sides.
